How to avoid burnout
Reading time: 4 minutes
The biggest problem we face today:
Overstimulation.
Our minds are running on overdrive 24/7.
We’re always busy:
Working
Training
Learning
And the gaps in between?
We fill them with videos or social media.
Even when we’re not doing anything...
We’re still thinking.
Why is this a problem?
Your mind doesn’t have infinite energy.
Like a machine: if it runs nonstop, it overheats and breaks.
Like your body: if you train without rest, your muscles deteriorate.
Like a horse: if it runs forever, it collapses.
We understand this logic...
Yet, when it comes to our minds, we ignore it.
But if you keep pushing through?
Your mind will force you to rest.
That’s when you’ll experience:
Self-sabotage
Burnout
So how do we prevent this?
You can do it in 3 simple steps:
1) Be bored
I’m serious.
When is the last time you felt bored?
Most people instantly grab their phone the moment they have nothing to do.
We’re constantly distracted.
Why is this a problem?
If you’re never bored, you’re never truly stimulated.
If you take away boredom, the stimulation becomes the new norm.
That’s why you seek extra stimulating things.
Good dopamine loses its zest.
Things like:
Relationships
Work
Training
They will be part of the less stimulating things.
They become a drag.
The solution?
Create a new norm.
Remove void fillers.
(AKA your phone)
Be aware of your habits—notice what you do when boredom hits.
Most of the time, it’s automatic.
So, what do you do when you have nothing to do?
Just be.
Here’s what will happen:
Your peace of mind increases.
Your creativity flourishes.
Life feels more colorful.
Try it.
You won’t regret it.
2) Stop thinking
Yet again, I’m not joking.
So now you’ve removed external distractions.
But what about internal distractions?
Like your own thoughts.
Maybe you’re thinking about what to do.
Maybe you’re thinking about what happened.
Maybe you’re thinking about what could happen.
This isn’t rest.
It’s the opposite.
Especially if you keep engaging with those thoughts.
So, how do you stop thinking?
You don’t force thoughts out of your head.
Instead...
You observe them.
This is the essence of meditation.
Don’t force anything.
Just observe:
The sounds around you
Your thoughts
Your breath
It can be very tricky at first.
That’s why I used guided meditation for my first 100 times.
This is the one I used:
Now, I don’t need it anymore.
Just like everything else...
It gets easier over time.
3) Sleep like a baby
Sleep is the ultimate rest for your mind.
I was able to endure overstimulation for over 3 months just because I prioritized my sleep.
But don’t ignore the first two points.
Don’t rely on sleep alone.
It isn’t sustainable.
I learned this the hard way.
I lost a lot of momentum because of it.
But this one is still the most important.
Think of your mind like a battery.
You wake up fully charged—100%.
Everything you do throughout the day drains energy.
Let’s say you have 20% left at the end of the day.
Sleep is your recharge.
Every hour of sleep restores ~10% of your energy.
So if you get 8 hours of sleep...
You wake up at 100%.
If you only sleep for 6 hours...
You wake up with 80%.
Why does this matter?
Some tasks require a high energy threshold to complete.
Creative work? 80%+ energy needed.
Deep work? 70%+ energy needed.
That’s why you need to tackle them first thing in the morning—while your battery is still full.
But if you start the day at 60-70%...
You won’t have enough energy to do them at all.
But there is one more thing...
If you go below 20% at the end of the day...
It’s impossible to fully recharge.
The next day, you’ll wake up at 90%...then 80%... then 70%...
Before you know it, you’re running on fumes.
How to prevent this?
Avoid overstimulation.
That’s the real cause behind long-term energy depletion.
Endnote
This battery analogy did wonders for me.
Find stillness throughout the day.
Prioritize quality sleep every night.
If either is missing?
Your energy slowly drains over time.
Use more energy than you restore...
And long-term consistency becomes impossible.
If you want to build unstoppable momentum, protect your energy levels at all costs.
Because focus takes energy.
But if you find moments of stillness and get quality sleep...
You’ll be able to sustain focus effortlessly.
Of course, this isn’t the only piece of the puzzle.
