How to Gamify your life

Reading time: 4 minutes

Being addicted to video games is your greatest strength.

Wait, what?

I know it sounds weird...

But here me out.

If you’re addicted to video games, you’re not ACTUALLY addicted to video games.

You’re addicted to the:

  • Achievements

  • Progress

  • Status

...that they brings.

We are social beings.

Because of that, we have hierarchies.

And what do social beings in hierarchies value the most?

Status.

Because a higher status means a higher chance to reproduce.

But here’s the thing:

Your primal brain can’t distinguish between different kinds of status.

Being the highest level in a lobby with all your friends feels the same as being the richest person in your neighborhood.

The difference?

One actually increases your real-world opportunities...

The other doesn’t.

But your brain doesn’t care.

In video games, you get status from achievements—having a higher rank or level than your peers.

And you get achievements through progress.

This creates ‘’the gaming circuit’’:

Progress

Achievement

Status.

So why is this your greatest strength?

Because this circuit can latch onto 2 things:

  1. Video games

  2. Business

You can swap your addiction to video games for an addiction for business.

Here’s how:

Step 1: Removal

This gaming circuit can only latch onto one thing at a time.

If you try to balance both...

Video games will always win.

Why?

Because your primal brain optimizes for pleasure with the least amount of pain.

Video games give you:

✔ Fast progress.

✔ Quick dopamine hits

✔ Minimal effort required

Business, on the other hand, requires more energy and longer timeframes to see results.

So how do you force your brain to focus on business?

Remove games completely.

What will happen?

The games will go, but the circuit will stay.

Energy cannot be, destroyed—only converted.

That’s why you must start a business at the same time you quit gaming.

Fill the void.

Step 2: Dopamine Trailing

Now that you’re focused on business...

You must turn it into a game.

How?

By creating a trail of achievements that lead to your goal.

Game developers intentionally make it difficult to reach the end goal.

If they didn’t, you’d quit within an hour.

That’s why the best games trail dopamine by using:

✔ Side quests

✔ Unlockable achievements

✔ Small progress rewards

This keeps you engaged long enough to reach the main goal.

You must do the same in business.

Reverse-engineer your goal:

$10k/month

Your first $1,000

Your first client

Your first online dollar

Now, create side quests that contribute to your main goal.

For example:

  • Build a website

  • Create an offer

  • Helping people for free

This gamifies the process.

You do things you don’t enjoy in video games all the time—because they get you closer to the next achievement.

Treat business the same way.

Step 3: Upgrade Your Character

The last step?

Upgrade your character.

Who’s the character?

YOU ARE.

See yourself as an in-game character on a mission.

Ask yourself:

‘’Who do I need to become to reach my goal?’’

In a game, you can’t defeat the final boss when you’re still Level 1.

You must level up.

How?

By upgrading 4 key areas:

  • Skills – What must you learn to win?

  • Characteristics – What traits must you develop?

  • Beliefs – What do you need to believe about yourself?

  • Paradigm – How do you see the world?

Start with skills.

If you’re a content creator, you need:

  • Writing

  • Speaking

  • Marketing

  • Sales

Next, develop characteristics:

  • Discipline – Control your actions

  • Emotional control – React with reason, not impulse

  • Consistency – No skipping days.

  • Focus – Eliminate distractions.

  • Commitment – Pick one thing and stick to it

  • Patience – Delayed gratification

Then, address your beliefs.

You can’t fake confidence.

Your subconscious mind knows when you’re lying to yourself.

Instead of believing ‘’I am already successful,’’ believe:

  • I am building the 4 skills

  • I am developing the 6 characteristics

  • I am becoming the ideal identity

Believe in your progress.

Finally, shift your paradigm.

We have unlimited access to the minds of hyper-successful people.

Observe their worldview.

What do they believe?

Adopt those beliefs.

Endnote

If you followed these steps correctly...

You’ve managed to:

  1. Swapped games for business

  2. Create your own game plan

  3. Identify what to improve

The only thing left?

Take action.

You won’t complete the game if you don’t play it.

And when you fail?

Just press the respawn button.

Failing isn’t the end—it’s just a checkpoint.

Some lessons you’ll learn instantly.

Others might take 10 failures before they sink in.

And some...

You won’t even realize you’re repeating.

But does that stop you from playing games?

No.

You keep going until you win.

Treat business the same way.

Because the rewards?

They’re infinite.

Much love,
